Bride-to-be killed in motorcycle accident in Manila
A woman who was soon to be married was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sta. Ana, Manila, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto in 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday.
CCTV footage showed the victim was riding in tandem onboard a motorcycle that was approaching an intersection along Pedro Gil Street in Barangay 876 when it was struck by another motorcycle that suddenly turned left from the opposite lane.
“May narinig akong sumalpok medyo malakas. Pag lingon ko, nakita ko agad na yun nga dalawang motor nagbanggaan.Yung babae nandoon sa dulo,” said barangay councilor Jarel Guiriba.
(I heard a loud crash that came from an impact. When I looked, I saw two motorcycles had collided. The woman was at the end.)
The woman was thrown off the motorcycle driven by her fiancé and rolled several for several meters on the road.
She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“Yung nagmamaneho naman ng isang motorcycle, dinala sa Orthopedic Hospital para magkaroon ng medical attention, gayundin yung isang nagmamaneho nito, sugatan din,” Manila Police District spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines said.
(The driver of the other motorcycle was brought to the Orthopedic Hospital for medical attention. The other motorcycle driver also sustained wounds.)
The victims were about to get married in September.
Meanwhile, the suspect is in the custody of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit.
He said he was buying parts for his motorcycle when the incident happened.
“Nung malapit na ako sa may pinaka lilikuan ko tsaka ko napansin na ang tulin ng motor ko. Humihingi rin po ako ng tawad, ‘di ko rin naman po ginusto yun,” the suspect said.
(When I was about to turn I noticed my motorcycle was moving too fast. I am asking for forgiveness, I also did not want this to happen.)
The suspect is facing charges of reckless driving resulting in homicide.
Guiriba said the area is prone to accidents due to its many intersections. —Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
