LGBTQIA+ community in Mandaluyong gets P5K, food packs from DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday granted P5,000 financial aid to each of the 5,000 members of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual plus (LGBTQIA+) community in Mandaluyong City in celebration of Pride Month.

In a statement, the office of Speaker Martin Romualdez reported that the aid was sourced under DSWD’s Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP).

“The LGBTQIA+ community has long been a solid and vibrant partner in our nation's progress and development. This is a symbolic gesture of our solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, reinforcing our resolve to create a society where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can thrive and prosper,” Romualdez said.

House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias Gabonada, Jr. said the AKAP beneficiaries came from the City of Mandaluyong and from members of the group LGBT Pilipinas in Metro Manila. —Llanesca Panti/LDF, GMA Integrated News
