LTFRB recommends suspension of jeepney driver's license over body-shaming incident
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has recommended to the Land Transportation Office to suspend the driver’s license of the jeepney driver who discriminated against a passenger because of her weight.
According to Glen Juego’s report in Super Radyo dzBB, the LTFRB Board made the recommendation in accordance with the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
The report added that the LTFRB would also penalize the driver and the jeepney operator with a P15,000 fine.
“The act of the driver and his conductor is not only abominable but has no place in a civilized society. The degradation and humiliation suffered by the complainant, coupled with the brazen admission and unapologetic behavior of the driver and his conductor, deserved a scant penalty from this office,” the LTFRB Board said.
A 29-year-old passenger earlier filed a complaint before the LTFRB after the jeepney driver allegedly demanded she leave the jeepney for being overweight.
The passenger added that the driver and his wife also blamed her for their tires going flat. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
