Cop among 3 suspects arrested for illegally selling guns
A cop was among three suspects who were arrested by the Southern Police District (SPD) for illegally selling firearms, one of which has Armed Forces of the Philippines markings.
According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on 24 Oras report, authorities seized an M16 rifle and a Glock pistol with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) markings. The M16 was being sold for P250,000 while the Glock was going for P90,000.
Also seized was another handgun, several ammunition and cellphones, police IDs and other paraphernalia.
“Matagal na tong minamanmanan ng kapulisan dahil nakakakuha nga po sila ng confidential reports, nag-test buy ang ating mga kapulisan,” said Police Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, SPD- District Director.
(The police have been monitoring them for some time because we have been receiving confidential reports, our police conducted a test buy.)
It took two weeks to arrange the transaction between the suspects and poseur buyers.
“Very discreet din talaga yan kung paano nila yung mga firearm. Actually nilagay nila ito sa badminton bag kaya ‘di ko mapansin na andun pala yung long firearm,” he added.
(It's also very discreet how they carry the firearms. They hid them inside a badminton bag so it’s hard to notice that a long firearm was there.)
GMA Integrated News spoke to the suspects but they refused to comment.
“No comment po,” said the female suspect.
Meanwhile, the SPD assured that the suspects would be held accountable for their actions.
Investigators are trying to determine the source of the firearms even as a complaint of violating Republic Act 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition are being readied against the suspects.
“There's no sacred cow sa PNP. Pa-iimbestigahan natin itong mga ito at pafile-an ng appropriate cases— admin at criminal,” Rosete said.
