NBI seizes P20M illegal drugs in Las Piñas

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday said its Special Task Force (STF) seized illegal drugs with an estimated worth of P20 million in Las Piñas City.

According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, STF operatives seized a package bound for Nigeria that contained LED wall lamps and floodlights on July 30.

Inside the lights were 19 black plastic bangs and 17 transparent bags with crystalline substance. An examination by the NBI-Forensic Chemistry Division yielded a positive result for the presence of shabu.

Upon further examination, it was found that the drugs weighed 3,087 grams with a street value of P6,800 per gram.

Due to this, the NBI said the drugs have an estimated amount of P20.9 million.

According to the NBI, the STF received information that a courier vehicle was suspected to be carrying illegal drugs in a 25-kilogram brown box.

The STF operatives then headed to Las Piñas City, where the vehicle was spotted traversing along C-5.

Meanwhile, the bureau said it arrested a Nigerian national and a Filipina, who admitted to shipping the package, in a subdivision in the city.

Both were tested for drugs, to which the foreigner tested positive.

They were presented for inquest proceedings before the Prosecutor’s Office for violation of RA No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

The foreigner will also be referred to the Bureau of Immigration for proper disposition.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
