4 arrested in Parañaque for illegal sale of firearms -NBI
Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) arrested four individuals in Parañaque City for the illegal sale of high-powered firearms, the NBI reported on Friday.
According to the bureau, an entrapment operation was conducted on November 28 following a report about a group involved in the illegal sale of high-powered firearms in the region and nearby areas.
During the operation, the suspects attempted to sell two firearms to poseur-buyers for P290,000.
NBI Agent-on-Case Mark Genesis Caceres said in John Consulta's Friday 24 Oras report that one of the suspects was a retired soldier and that the gang sold firearms to foreigners or POGO individuals.
Meanwhile, the seized firearms will be tested for possible involvement in recent shooting incidents in the country.
“Itong firearms will be checked with our [foreign] counterparts, the Interpol, make model, the caliber, and the serial number, to see if these firearms were stolen, declared lost, traffic or smuggled into the country. These are not locally manufactured firearms. Hindi ito yung mga reload, (These are not reloads,) these are special bullets… hollow point and full metal jacket,” said NBI-NCR Regional Director Ferdinand Lavin.
“Masyadong delikado itong mga kalibre ng firearms na kanilang supposedly ibinebenta. Remember, nalalapit na ang ating eleksyon kaya naglilipana na naman yang mga unlicensed firearms,” added NBI Director Jimmy Santiago.
(These calibers of firearms that they are supposedly selling are too dangerous. Remember, the election is approaching and unlicensed guns are beginning to spread again.)
The NBI said this violated the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
In addition to the two firearms, authorities also confiscated several other guns, live ammunition, and P1,000 bills. — Jiselle Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
