Motorcycle rider hits SAICT enforcer on EDSA busway

A motorcycle rider is facing multiple charges after hitting a DOTr-SAICT enforcer and a cyclist while being chased by authorities for entering the EDSA busway.

According to a ''24 Oras'' report by Joseph Morong on Friday, authorities tried to stop rider “Dong” who was traversing the busway along Ortigas Avenue. However, the motorcycle rider continued driving and ran into a female enforcer of the DOTR-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTR-SAICT).

After that, he entered the bike lane and struck a male biker. He was then apprehended by the authorities.

Dong, who claimed he was late for work, said he was not trying to avoid accountability for the incident.

“Inovertake-an ko yung isang sasakyan. 'Pag-overtake ko pagpasok ko sa bus lane, nakita nila ako… Yung preno ko po, hindi kumagat ng todo. Parang nabulaga ako, napihit ko yung gas,” he said.

(I overtook a vehicle. When I was overtaking on the bus lane, they saw me… When I hit the brakes, it didn’t go through. I was surprised and hit the gas.)

''Hindi ko po ginusto talaga,'' he added.

(It was not my intention.)

According to DOTR-SAICT, the 56-year-old biker sustained a minor wound, while the female enforcer was unharmed.

Dong is now detained on several charges, including direct assault, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and abandonment of victim.

“Magka-conduct tayo ng further investigation. Habang naghihintay tayo ng resolusyon sa piskal, idi-detain muna natin siya,” said PCG investigation division chief Ensign Zan Kristian Arellano.
