Fire breaks out in Binondo, Manila

A fire broke out in Binondo, Manila on Wednesday morning.

The fire, located on Carvajal Street in Barangay 289, started past 5 a.m., according to a report on Unang Balita.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised the second alarm at 5:45 a.m., which meant eight fire trucks were needed in the area.

BFP personnel and fire volunteers were able to put out the fire at 7 a.m., according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Unang Balita.

BFP Manila Station 1 commander Fire Senior Inspector Ronald Lim said the fire started on the second floor of a building. It affected the third floor of the said building as well as the establishment beside it.

The neighboring establishment was also gutted by fire last August where 11 people died.

Residents and workers in nearby establishments and buildings quickly evacuated.

There were no casualties in the incident due to the quick response of the BFP and volunteers, Lim said.

The BFP is still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and amount of property damage.

"Paalala lang po na laging mag-ingat ang mga mamamayan sa mga gamit natin sa mga bahay, 'yung mga electrical natin, pag-ingatan," Lim said.
