PH motorcycle manufacturers issue safety tips for riders in summer

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) on Wednesday released a guide to help motorcycle riders travel conveniently during the summer.

In a statement, the group said the following essential tips can help riders beat the heat:

·Stay Hydrated - Bring water bottle for drinking regularly, take short breaks in shaded areas between long rides to cool off and rehydrate.

·Wear breathable, UV-protective Gear - Choose jackets, pants, and mesh panel gloves made out of breathable moisture-wicking fabrics for better ventilation and protection. Always wear full-face helmets with UV-tinted visors, or sunglasses, for good airflow and eye comfort.

·Ride during cooler hours – Ride out early in the morning or late in the afternoon for lower temperatures to reduce the risk of heatstroke and sunburn

·Be alert to the effects of heat on your vehicle – Check your tire pressure before and after rides, and adjust according to your manufacturer’s recommendation, to ensure that the high temperatures have not increased your tire pressure. Ensure your cooling system is in good condition, and that your radiator or cooling fins are clean and unobstructed.

·Maintain the safety of your vehicle – Conduct quick safety checks of your tires, brakes, oil, lights, and chain tension, and always conduct regular maintenance to avoid breakdowns caused by the heat.

“Through proper planning and awareness, you’ll be able to enjoy the open road while keeping yourself and your machine in peak condition,” the MDPPA said.

The MDPPA is a collection of leading motorcycle manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS committed to addressing the global industry gaps in road safety, regulation compliance, environmental protection, technology, and innovation. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
