Veterans Bank: No one harmed, no cash taken amid attempted robbery in Taguig

There were no persons harmed and no cash was taken following an attempted robbery incident at a Philippine Veterans Bank branch in Taguig City last Monday.

In a statement, the Philippine Veterans Bank said that the attempted robbery “was immediately foiled,” citing the “vigilance of our security personnel and the swift response of the Taguig City Police.”

With this, the bank said that “no cash was taken” and “no one was harmed” following the incident.

A report on GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita said the suspect was able to get over P7 million in cash but was immediately foiled by responding police when a teller was able to push an alarm button.

The bank said that all of its Taguig branch staff are safe.

“No customers were inside the branch at the time, as the incident occurred shortly before closing,” the Philippine Veterans Bank said.

The bank expressed gratitude to the Taguig City Police for its prompt and effective action.

“We are working closely with authorities as the investigation into this isolated incident continues,” it said.

“Philippine Veterans Bank remains fully committed to the safety and security of our clients, employees, and facilities. Our existing security systems were instrumental in alerting law enforcement and enabling their timely intervention,” it added.

The bank said it is conducting a comprehensive review of its protocols and is investing further in security enhancements.

According to the Unang Balita report, the suspect was a regular client of the bank, thus the security personnel did not check the suspect’s belongings upon entering the branch.

The suspect was even able to use the branch’s restroom which is off-limits to clients.

“We also wish to assure our clients that the Taguig Branch has resumed normal operations and remains fully secure and ready to serve,” it said.

The Philippine Veterans Bank noted that its banking services across all its branches continue without disruption.

“We remain committed to delivering safe, secure, and reliable banking services,” it said. —Ted Cordero/KG, GMA Integrated News
