Suspect in shawarma store employee killing surrendered —police

The suspect in the killing of a shawarma store employee in Quezon City has surrendered and was placed in the custody of the Quezon City Police District, QCPD Deputy District Director for Administration and Officer-in-Charge Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio said.
The suspect who was then in Barobo, Surigao del Sur, surrendered on May 8 to authorities, according to a QCPD statement issued Friday.
Police said they earlier coordinated with relatives of the suspect who in turn communicated with the suspect, urging him to surrender.
When the suspect agreed to surrender, the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) coordinated with the local police station. With the help of Police Regional Office 13 and the Barobo Municipal Police Station, the suspect officially surrendered to authorities on May 8.
CIDU operatives then fetched the suspect and brought him to Quezon City. The suspect was placed in the custody of QCPD on May 9.
The QCPD is set to file murder charges against the suspect at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
Initial investigation showed that at around 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, a female employee of a shawarma store was found lifeless in the store's kitchen and with stab wounds.
The suspect was identified as alias Eduardo, 22, a former employee of the said store in Barangay Sangandaan.
He allegedly entered the store on the night of May 3 and stabbed the victim before fleeing.
CCTV inside the store captured the incident, leading to the identification of the suspect, according to a report on State of the Nation on May 7.
The suspect also left behind his wallet with ID, debit card, and P1,000.
Nothing was missing among the victim's belongings and the store's funds.
QCPD said initial investigation showed the crime may have been done as a result of personal grudge.
"Tandem sila sa mga assignment nila dito sa store. So noong nag-inventory, itong si biktima, napag-alaman niya na may discrepancy doon sa kanyang mga inventory," QCPD spokesperson Police Captain Febie Madrid said.
(They worked in tandem in their assignments in the store. So when there was inventory taking, the victim found out that there was a discrepancy.)
"Kaya kinonfront niya itong si suspek at doon, naging mitsa ito na matanggal itong suspek sa kanilang trabaho," she added.
(She confronted the suspect and this led to the suspect being fired from his job.) —KG, GMA Integrated News
