DMW: Japanese, Filipina arrested for illegal recruitment, human trafficking at NAIA
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said a Japanese man and a Filipina were arrested for alleged human trafficking and large-scale illegal recruitment at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on May 9.
In a statement on Tuesday, suspects Tomita Takayuki and Maria Zenaida Callos Otani were arrested by DMW operatives and NAIA Task Force Against Trafficking while trying to sneak a 13 Filipinos out of the country for alleged factory jobs in Japan.
It was said that the suspects were recruiting victims under a bogus agency called Winkbayside Manpower Services, and offered jobs as factory workers under the Technical Intern Training Program of Japan with a salary of JPY200,000 (PHP75,276).
However, victims would be turned over to various employers to work in factories using different identities and that they ] only received JPY120,000 or PHP41,165 from the promised amount.
Meanwhile, the DMW asked other victims of the suspects to coordinate with their office so they could be assisted in filing appropriate charges. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
