The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday said 18 elevators across six stations of the EDSA Busway or EDSA Carousel bus rapid transit system are now working.

In a news release posted on its social media accounts, the DOTr said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon conducted an inspection at the EDSA Busway's Balintawak Station to ensure that its elevator is working.

"Bahagi ito ng direktiba ni Pangulong Marcos na tumutok ang gobyerno sa pagtiyak na convenient at accessible ang pampublikong transportasyon lalo na sa mga priority passengers tulad ng senior citizens, buntis at mga PWD (persons with disability)," the Transportation Department said.

(This is part of President Marcos' directive that the government ensure that public transportation is convenient and accessible, especially for priority passengers such as senior citizens, pregnant women, and PWDs.)

The agency said, "18 elevator ang gumagana sa anim na magkakahiwalay na istayon ng busway, para sa mas madaling biyahe sa mga pasahero (18 elevators are working in six separate busway stations for the ease of commute of passengers)."

The six busway stations with working elevators are as follows:

Monumento
Bagong Barrio
Balintawak
SM North
Philam
Guadalupe

Meanwhile, the DOTr said the rehabilitation of EDSA—Metro Manila's main thoroughfare—will start in the middle of June as the agency, the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) finalize plans for the EDSA Rebuild Program.

The rehabilitation of EDSA is part of the country's hosting preparations for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit next year.

The DOTr earlier said the EDSA Busway will continue to operate even with the highway's planned rehabilitation.

The bus rapid transit system currently has 21 bus stops or stations from Monumento in Caloocan City to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) in Parañaque City. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
