PNP chief Torre visits wake of cop killed in QC shootout
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III on Tuesday visited the wake of Patrolman Harwin Curtney Baggay who died in an armed encounter with a robber on Monday.
According to the PNP, Torre personally went to Camp Caringal Chapel and met the fallen cop’s family.On Monday, Baggay and another police officer who were stationed in front of Benigno Aquino Elementary School heard successive gunshots 25 meters away from their post.
The two responded to the incident which turned out to be a robbery in progress.The victim, identified as “Sonny,” sustained gunshot wounds to his left upper arm and left trunk while another victim “Irah Mae” was hit by a ricochet of a fragment bullet. They were brought to Rosario Maclang Hospital for medical attention.
Baggay was shot by the suspect, hitting his left arm through his chest. Despite his injury, Baggay managed to retaliate while his buddy also shot and killed the suspect.
The wounded cop was immediately rushed to Rosario Maclang Hospital for immediate treatment but he was pronounced dead by the attending physician
The Quezon City Police District and National Capital Region Police Office mourned the death of the fallen police officer.
