Fingerprints lifted from vehicle of slain TNVS driver matches suspect — NBI

The fingerprints from a water bottle inside the vehicle of the slain TNVS driver matched one of the suspects, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Monday.

“Sigurado po tayo na ‘yung fingerprints na nakuha doon sa bottled water ay nag match sa fingerprint… na isa po sa tatlong possible suspect,” the NBI said in a press briefing.

(We are certain that the fingerprints found on the bottled water matched the fingerprint of Jin Armin De Ocampo, who is one of the three possible suspects.)

An autopsy report showed that driver Raymond Cabrera was stabbed twice on the left chest in Parañaque City in May, which led to his death.

The three suspects, including the one with the matching fingerprints, voluntarily surrendered to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on July 10. They were turned over to the NBI.

Following this, they led authorities to the location of Cabrera’s remains.

Atty. Joseph Martin, one of the agents on the case, said the suspects initially wanted to take control of the vehicle.

“Initially, ang gusto nilang gawin makakuha ng isang TNVS na sasakyan. Pagkatapos noon, ico-comandeer nila ‘yung sasakyan, and then later on kukuha ulit ng pasahero. ‘Yung pasahero na ‘yun, baka maka-jackpot sila, makakuha sila ng malaking pera doon,” he said.

(Initially, what they wanted to do was get a TNVS vehicle. After that, they would commandeer the vehicle, and then later on pick up another passenger. That passenger might be a jackpot for them, someone they could get a lot of money from.)

“Apparently, ang nangyari dito napatay nila ‘yung driver nitong TNVS na ito kaya hindi na sila nagawa ‘yung susunod nilang plano na pangangarnap, pang ho-holdup,” he added.

(Apparently, what happened here is they killed the driver of the TNVS and they could not do the next part of their plan to carnap, to rob an individual.)

Meanwhile, Dr. Romel Papa, the assistant director of the Forensic and Scientific Research Service, said they swabbed the contents of the vehicle and the families of the participants in the crime.

“Consistent with the next of kin of Raymond Cabrera with a probability of 99.99%,” he said.

NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin said the preliminary investigation for the robbery with homicide complaint is now ongoing. — RF, GMA Integrated News
