Marikina City declares state of calamity

The Marikina City government on Wednesday declared a state of calamity as residents reel from the impact of continuous downpours due to Tropical Cyclone Crising and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

By virtue of City Council Resolution 109 Series of 2025, the Marikina local government unit (LGU) declared the state of calamity with the goal of expediting the delivery of assistance and ensuring the well-being of affected residents, Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro said in a Facebook post.

The status of the Marikina River was lowered to first alarm on Tuesday, after reaching the critical third alarm with 18.3 meters on Monday evening.

A total of 1,637 individuals, or 346 families, were evacuated as of Tuesday evening, according to a 24 Oras report by Mariz Umali.

Aside from Marikina, the following are among the LGUs which have also declared a state of calamity:

• Manila
• Quezon City 
• Malabon
• Cavite 
• Cainta, Rizal 
• Calumpit, Bulacan 

According to PAGASA's 4 p.m. daily weather forecast, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Tropical Storm Esmong are expected to affect the weather conditions in several areas of the country in the next 24 hours. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
