Phase 1 of EDSA Busway rehab begins Monday, Aug. 11, 2025

Phase 1 of the EDSA Busway rehabilitation began on Monday, August 11, 2025, focusing on improvements to four of its stations.

These stations are Monumento, Bagong Barrio, North Avenue, and Guadalupe.

According to James Agustin’s Monday report on “Balitanghali,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will use the North EDSA Station as its model in improving the other existing stations.

At North Avenue Station in Caloocan, one of its three elevators is not operational.

Meanwhile, the Monumento Station signage is barely visible due to dim lights.

Passengers also rely on stairs to get to and from the station.

Commuter Al Aranza-Mendez, a person with disability (PWD), said an escalator or elevator would help ease access to these stations, particularly for senior citizens and PWDs.

Another commuter, Mefy Martico, said climbing the stairs is difficult, especially when carrying heavy objects.

Meanwhile, commuter Ma. Cecilia Cosico wished for a more efficient system and shorter queue in the EDSA busway.

In a Super Radyo DzBB interview, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency will also have three new stations, aside from the rehabilitation of the four stations.

"Actually lahat ng station natin ganun [katulad ng North EDSA Station] yung gagawin natin. Hindi lang yung major. Kaya lang dahil nabawasan ang budget ng DOTr ngayon 2025, pito natin ang gagawin natin this year," Dizon said.

(We will pattern all the stations like the North EDSA Station, not just the major ones. However, since DOTr's budget for 2025 has been reduced, we will work on seven stations this year.)

DOTr earlier revealed that it aims to construct busway stations in Cubao in Quezon City and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). — RF, GMA Integrated News
