LTO suspends license of SUV driver who stuck dirty finger after cutting off motorist in viral video

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the driver’s license of the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in a viral video online who stuck a dirty finger to the motorist he just cut off, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Tuesday.

The suspension came after the LTO also issued a show cause order against the driver of a Toyota Prado requiring him to appear before the agency’s main office in East Avenue, Quezon City on August 28 to submit a written explanation on why he should not be administratively charged for the violation of reckless driving and why his license should not be revoked or suspended.

“Meanwhile, the above-said motor vehicle… is hereby placed under ALARM preventing any and all transactions while under investigation,” the show cause order said.

"Based on the video posted on Facebook, the driver of the Toyota Prado was seen cutting into a lane and subsequently making an offensive hand gesture toward another motorist," the LTO said in a social media post.

For his part, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said that the government will not tolerate unruly behavior on the road.

“Paulit-ulit na bilin ng Pangulo, dapat pairalin ang disiplina sa kalsada. Walang lugar sa kalsada ang bastos at walang disiplinang motorista,” he said in a statement.
