Flooded roads in Metro Manila amid Habagat rains

Flooding hit several roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday morning amid the rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that as of 5:29 a.m. the affected roads were the following:

Manila 

  • Quirino Station facing Vito Cruz Street - gutter deep (eight inches), passable to all type of vehicles
  • Quirino Station northbound - gutter deep (eight inches), passable to all type of vehicles
  • Pedro Gil Street - gutter deep (eight inches), passable to all type of vehicles
  • Quirino Station to Taft Avenue - gutter deep (eight inches), passable to all type of vehicles

 

The MMDA said in an update that the floods in Manila have subsided as of 7:20 a.m.

Mandaluyong 

  • EDSA-Shaw tunnel northbound - half gutter deep (four inches) as of 7:20 a.m.; gutter deep (eight inches) as of 5:29 a.m., passable to all type of vehicles

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, Habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over Luzon and the western section of Visayas on Friday.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy rains.

Western Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and with flash floods or landslides occurring during severe thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur during severe thunderstorms.

Classes for Friday have been suspended in different parts of the country due to the threat of the bad weather. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
