Isko Moreno orders dismantling of viral overlapping street signs in Manila
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Friday ordered the dismantling of one of the overlapping street signs in the city that has become a subject of online criticism.
The mayor said that the street signs were not installed by his administration.
“Nandiyan na ‘yan, wala na tayong magagawa. To correct the wrong, hindi naman pwedeng dalawang signage, that’s why I ordered na tanggalin yung isa. Hinayaan ko na silang mamili,” Domagoso said in an online address.
(It's already there; we can't do anything about it. To correct the wrong, you can't have two signages; that's why I ordered one to be removed. I let them choose which one.)
He said that the budget for the installation of the reflectorized street name signages for Districts 1 to 6 was P39.9 million, based on the report submitted to him by City Engineer Armand Andres.
“Hindi po natin ‘yan ginawa, ayaw kong magturo,” said Domagoso while presenting a copy of the document showing that the previous city administration approved the project.
(We didn't install that; I don't want to point fingers.)
In the viral photo, it can be seen that there were overlapping signages at the corner of Pedro Gil and Felix Street.
“Malungkot [kasi] gumastos tayo ng walang kapararakan….Ang tawag diyan ay pagwawaldas, hindi naman kailangan, ay ginastusan,” Domagoso said. “Ayoko na lang mag-elaborate, kayo na lang humusga.”
(It's sad because we spend senselessly... That's called squandering; it wasn't needed, but money was spent on it. I don't want to elaborate; you be the judge.)
