QC police vows legal action vs. protesters of flood control anomalies
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will take legal action against militants who staged a rally outside the Batasang Pambansa on Friday morning, saying eight of its cops were injured when tensions rose during the protest action that condemned alleged anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement on Friday evening, the QCPD said "appropriate legal actions shall be pursued to establish accountability" as an investigation is already underway.
According to an earlier report by Isa Avendaño Umali on Super Radyo dzBB, protesters threw mud and paint at the phalanx of policemen in front of the south gate of the Batasang Pambansa Complex, the seat of the House of Representatives.
Militant groups including Bayan Muna, Kabataan, and Gabriela had gathered there to seek accountability over the alleged flood control anomalies, wherein the names of several lawmakers have been dragged into the controversy.
The House of Representatives conducted a hearing on the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on the same day of the rally.
Avendaño's report said the protesters soon left and dispersed without incident.
The QCPD said about 300 individuals participated in the rally, which it said was conducted without a proper permit and obstructed traffic.
"In fulfillment of its mandate to maintain peace and order, the QCPD deployed personnel who managed the situation with maximum tolerance. Despite this, some protesters became aggressive, resulting in injuries to eight police officers who were lawfully performing their official duties," the QCPD statement read.
