Suspect in fatal Katipunan Avenue shooting surrenders
A 53-year old murder suspect involved in a fatal shooting along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City surrendered to police during the weekend, police said.
Investigation by the Quezon City Police District showed the suspect was involved in a fistfight against another man at 9:20 a.m. on Friday, September 5, at an alley near the corner of Katipunan Avenue in Barangay UP Campus.
“During the altercation, the suspect drew a handgun of unknown caliber from his sling bag and fired three shots to the victim’s chest and one to the head. The suspect then fled on a motorcycle, heading southbound on Katipunan Avenue,” police said.
The victim was rushed to the Quezon City Medical Center (QCMC) but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at 10:43 a.m.
Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio, QCPD Acting District Director, said operatives of Anonas Police Station 9 were able to locate the suspect’s Facebook account. With the information, police contacted the suspect’s son via Messenger and informed him of his father’s involvement in a murder case. The son agreed to help convince his father to surrender.
On the morning of Sept. 6, a joint team from PS 9 and the District Intelligence Division (DID) proceeded to Tondo, Manila where the suspect voluntarily surrendered.
After a check through the Investigation Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) system, it was revealed that the suspect had a previous case for Falsification of a Public Document in November 2023.
A case of murder will be filed against the suspect before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. — RF, GMA Integrated News
