Rape suspect takes cops on sea chase before arrest

A man wanted for statutory rape of a minor tried to escape police in a chase in the middle of the sea.

According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, the suspect hopped into a motor banca to escape pursuing cops. Police boarded a motor boat and ordered the other boatman to return to shore.

Once they were near the coast, the suspect jumped out of the boat and tried again to escape despite warning from the police. Unknown to the suspect, another team of cops was waiting for him. The cops tackled the man on the sand.

The arrest stemmed from information provided by the victims, the Northern Police District said.

“‘Yung mga biktima na rin nagbibigay ng tip,” said NPD district director Police Brigadier General Jerry Protacio.

(It was the victims who were giving the tips.)

The police, however, did not give full details on the case. On the other hand, the suspect has yet to make a statement on the matter. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
