LTO revokes driver's license of motorist who rammed minor's motorcycle
The motorist who rammed his vehicle into a 15-year-old motorcycle rider in Teresa, Rizal is no longer allowed to own or apply for a driver's license after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) perpetually disqualified him from holding a driver's license.
In a statement on Tuesday, LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said he wants the driver to face the agency after the latter did not show up during Monday’s hearing.
“Pareho sila na dapat may sagutin (driver ng kotse at estudyanteng nag-motorsiklo). Ang mabigat dito, hindi dapat ginawa ‘yun nung driver ng kotse na nambangga sa estudyante,” Lacanilao said.
(The car driver and the teenager motorcycle rider should both be accountable. However, the driver should not have rammed his car into the teenager.)
“Pwede niyang isuplong o pinahuli niya pero hindi ‘yung basta babanggain na lang niya dahil gusto niya, mainit ang ulo niya,” he added.
(He can report the teenager, but not hit him just because he wants to or he is irritated.)
The LTO added that the teenager is also disqualified from applying for a driver’s license for one year.
In a “24 Oras” report, CCTV footage showed the irate driver confronting the teenager who was on his way to school. The driver was heard telling bystanders that it was the teenager who was at fault for sideswiping him.
Meanwhile, the driver’s license of the teenager’s father was suspended for one month for violating traffic laws.
LTO said the father violated the law when he allowed his son to drive the motorcycle despite having no license and helmet, and using a motorcycle without a side mirror. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
