Quezon City OKs permit for rally at People Power Monument to continue on Monday
The Quezon City government has issued a permit to the United People's Initiative (UPI) to continue its rally at the People Power Monument on EDSA on Monday.
The UPI, a group of retired military officials, held a rally along White Plains Avenue on Sunday to call for justice and accountability amid government corruption.
According to a report by Glen Juego on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday evening, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio and Quezon City Traffic and Transport Management chief Dexter Cardenas confirmed that Monday's rally will again be held at the EDSA People Power Monument from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday.
Sunday's rally ended at 10 p.m. Cardenas clarified that the length of White Plains near the monument remains closed and will reopen at 5 a.m. to allow motorists to pass.
UPI's rally on Sunday coincided with the first day of the Iglesia ni Cristo's three-day rally against corruption at the Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park in Manila.
According to the Manila Police District, an estimated 650,000 people showed up at the INC event which, the church said, calls for concrete actions against corruption in government. — BM, GMA Integrated News
