HPG officer relieved after mauling patrolman

A Highway Patrol Group (HPG) officer was relieved from his post after he mauled a patrolman.

According to Jun Veneracion's Thursday report on "24 Oras," a patrolman was beaten and threatened allegedly for 30 minutes at Camp Crame after the Philippine National Police's Christmas party on December 16.

A video posted on social media showed a man wearing civilian clothes and carrying a gun.

He was identified as Col. Helson Walin.

The patrolman sustained wounds on his face and lips after Walin pointed a gun at him and mauled him.

The victim said the HPG officer smelled alcohol.

Walin was relieved and disarmed while the internal investigation is ongoing.

The suspect told authorities that the patrolman was not respecting him.

He has yet to comment on the matter.

Aside from administrative charges, the suspect may also face criminal charges. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
