Man nabbed for allegedly stealing French national's phone at EDSA busway

A robbery suspect was arrested in Quezon City for allegedly snatching the mobile phone of a French man at a station of the EDSA busway.

Personnel of the Department of Transportation - Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine National Police coordinated to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly snatched the victim's cell phone at the EDSA Busway Quezon Avenue Station.

A utility personnel alerted authorities but bus passengers also helped in the arrest, the DoTr said.

“This is the Bagong Pilipinas spirit in action — vigilance, seamless coordination, and zero tolerance for crime,” said DOTr-SAICT Assistant Secretary Jose Lim IV in a news release on Tuesday.

“We commend the PCG, PNP, security personnel, and the alert public for their exemplary response,” Lim said.

The DOTr-SAICT reminded the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help maintain safe transit environments. — Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA Integrated News
