Supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte are planning to hold a protest on the 40th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25 amid his scheduled hearings at the International Criminal Court (ICC), the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Monday.
“Also, we have one na mula po sa pro-Duterte sa February 25. Yun po yung gaganapin na motorcade,” NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said at a press briefing.
(Also, we have one from the pro-Duterte group on February 25. That's the motorcade that will be held.)
A total of 13,448 personnel are set to be deployed to secure the commemoration of the EDSA anniversary in Metro Manila, Asilo said.
According to Asilo, the prayer vigil and indignation rallies of Trillion Peso March Movement, Tindig Pilipinas, ATOM organized by Caritas, and Akbayan party-list at White Plains Avenue and Temple Drive have obtained a permit.
With the permission from the Quezon City government, the concerned groups agreed to use one venue and one stage with a maximum of 20,000 attendees.
The use of vape, cigarettes, plastic, or styrofoam are not allowed.
According to the NCRPO, the Mendiola and Malacañang areas remain no-rally zones. Police personnel will be on standby in case of protests in these areas.
Protesters are discouraged to incite violence, call for burning properties, or overthrow the government during their activity, the police added. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
