Pasig City gets 5 electric minibuses for free rides in underserved routes

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday announced the arrival of five new electric minibuses which will be used for its free rides program.

Sotto announced the news in a post on his Facebook page, noting that the arrival of the e-vehicles came a day before another round of oil price hikes.

The Pasig City mayor said each electric minibus was bought at P3.89 million per unit.

“Gagamitin ito ng Pasig Transport para sa Libreng Sakay (The Pasig Transport will use this for the Libreng Sakay). We will pilot test underserved and potential PUV routes to improve the efficiency of public transport in the city,” Sotto said.

He said the city government’s goal is to “see if these routes are feasible and have adequate demand.”

Sotto added that this is also in line with the finalization of the Pasig City Local Public Transport Route Plan and Traffic Management Plan, in coordination with appropriate national government agencies. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
