LTO relieves 4 personnel for alleged extortion in Navotas

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday relieved four of its law enforcement officers for their alleged involvement in an extortion incident last week in Navotas City.

In a statement, the LTO said the four enforcers were under the LTO’s National Capital Region office.

They were allegedly involved in an extortion incident last April 23 along C3 Road.

They were ordered to immediately surrender their law enforcement paraphernalia, etc. to the LTO’s Operations Division within 24 hours of receiving their relief or reassignment orders.

LTO chief and Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao assured that the agency is committed to fighting wrongdoing within its ranks as part of his seven-point priority agenda.

“Hindi kukunsintihin ng LTO ang anumang pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan. Nananatili kaming nakatuon sa pagtiyak na ang aming mga kawani ay ginagampanan ang kanilang tungkulin nang may pinakamataas na antas ng integridad at propesyonalismo,” he said.

(The LTO will not condone any abuse of power. We are focused on ensuring that our personnel carry out their duties with a high degree of integrity and professionalism.)

He also assured the public tha the LTO will conduct a thorough, fair investigation of the extortion allegations and that it will mete out appropriate sanctions on those who will be proven accountable.

The LTO also urged the public to report any incidents of abuse of power or wrongdoing of LTO personnel to them. — JMA, GMA News
