QC cop arrested after viral C5 hit-and-run incident
A police officer assigned to the Quezon City Police District was arrested following a viral hit-and-run incident along C5 Road in Pasig City.
In a statement, the National Capital Region Police Office said the police staff sergeant, whose identity was withheld, was assigned to the QCPD District Mobile Force Battalion.
The officer is now in custody and facing criminal and administrative investigations.
Authorities said the incident occurred at around 7 a.m. when a red-and-black motorcycle allegedly struck a civilian rider along C5 Road.
According to the NCRPO, the police officer allegedly forced the civilian rider off the road, causing injuries and damage to the motorcycle, before fleeing the scene without rendering assistance.
“The PNP does not have favorites when it comes to accountability,” NCRPO chief Anthony Aberin said.
“Whether the suspect is a civilian or a member of our own organization, the law applies equally. Misconduct will not be tolerated; it will be confronted,” he added.
The QCPD said the concerned personnel has been placed in custody and was ordered to submit an explanation as investigators determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Administrative and criminal complaints will be filed if warranted by the evidence, according to the QCPD.
Meanwhile, PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization has ordered a “full and impartial investigation” into the incident.
“Any personnel found to have violated laws, rules, or regulations shall be held fully accountable and subjected to appropriate administrative and criminal proceedings,” Nartatez said.—MCG, GMA News
