City authorities on Monday temporarily closed the intersection of Roxas Boulevard and Kalaw Avenue in Manila as members of various militant groups attempted to march toward the United States Embassy and were blocked by personnel of the Manila Police District, according to a traffic advisory aired on Super Radyo DZBB.

Motorists bound for Roxas Boulevard and those traversing Kalaw Avenue were advised to take Finance Road or proceed along Padre Burgos Avenue as alternate routes while the junction remained closed.

The protest, organized by multiple progressive groups, prompted police to set up a barricade to prevent demonstrators from advancing toward the embassy compound.

No immediate reports of injuries or arrests were monitored.

Super Radyo dzBB reported that traffic was heavy in the vicinity of Roxas Boulevard and Kalaw Avenue due to the closure and the ongoing protest action.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and use the suggested detours until normal traffic flow is restored. — MCG, GMA News
