Muslims gather at Quirino Grandstand in Manila for Eid'l Adha 2026

Filipino Muslims gathered early at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila and Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 to celebrate Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Muslims arrived before dawn to attend the prayers scheduled at 6:30 a.m., according to GMA News' Jhomer Apresto.

In an update, the Manila Police District (MPD) said thousands of people gathered early Wednesday morning for a moon sighting activity in connection with the observance of Eid’l Adha.

The MPD’s Ermita Police Station (PS-5) said police personnel from the Rizal Park Outpost conducted security coverage and area monitoring beginning around 4 a.m.

Police said around 200 participants were initially monitored at 5 a.m. The crowd later increased to around 700 by 5:50 a.m.

By 6:20 a.m., authorities estimated the crowd had reached around 6,000 while the program was ongoing.

At around 7 a.m., police said the gathering was still ongoing but the number of attendees decreased to around 4,000.

Authorities said the program peacefully concluded at around 7:14 a.m.

The MPD said the situation at the venue remained peaceful throughout the activity.

Meanwhile, some Muslims also gathered for prayers at the Kartilya ng Katipunan grounds in Manila early Wednesday.

Quezon City

Also, around 3,000 members of the Muslim community gathered early Wednesday morning at Quezon Memorial Circle for the observance of Eid’l Adha, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Based on the QCPD report, members of Islamic faith groups began arriving in the area at around 4:30 a.m.

By 6:25 a.m., the formal Eid’l Adha prayer and Khutbah (sermon) commenced, with worshipers filling the open grounds for the religious observance.

The prayer service concluded at 7:03 a.m.

The event, attended by an estimated 3,000 “Muslim brothers and sisters,” was part of the annual Eid’l Adha celebration, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, which is observed by Muslims worldwide.

Eid'l Adha is the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. It is marked with festivity and sharing, the University of the Philippines (UP) Institute of Islamic Studies said.

Malacañang earlier declared May 27, 2026 a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of the Eid'l Adha.

Republic Act No. 9849 declares the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar, a national holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha, with a movable date.

“Eidul Adha is a tenth day in the month of Hajj or Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca wherein Muslims pay homage to Abraham’s supreme act of sacrifice and signifies mankind’s of obedience to God,” the law stated. —LDF/KG, GMA News
