Derek Ramsay surrenders supercar with alleged fake plate to LTO
Derek Ramsay and his friend went to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) headquarters on Monday to surrender the actor's supercar for allegedly carrying a fake plate.
"Yung naging kaso ng supercar na nakapangalan sa artista, si Mr. Ramsay, ay boluntaryong sinurrender sa amin sa LTO. In good faith naman yung registered owner para maimbestigahan mabuti yung mga pangyayari," said LTO chief Markus Lacanilao in a press conference on Tuesday.
(Regarding the case of the supercar registered under the actor, Mr. Ramsay, it was voluntarily surrendered to us at the LTO. The registered owner acted in good faith so that the circumstances could be thoroughly investigated.)
"Nag-appear sila kahapon sa akin, pati yung negosyanteng kaibigan niya. Tumugon sila sa show-cause order. Sinurrender yung supercar, yung driver's license nung negosyante, Mr. Violago, yung nagda-drive ng sasakyan," he added.
(They appeared before me yesterday, including his businessman friend. They responded to the show-cause order. They surrendered the supercar, as well as the driver's license of the businessman, Mr. Violago, who was driving the vehicle.)
The Porsche 918 owned by Ramsay was found being driven by his friend, businessman Anthony Violago, despite having a fake plate number.
Based on the LTO's initial findings, Ramsay had allegedly sold the vehicle to the businessman. However, the vehicle had not yet been transferred to the buyer's name, leaving Ramsay as its registered owner in the agency's records.
The actor later addressed the issue on social media, saying that "he does not drive any cars with fake plates." But he expressed his willingness to cooperate with the authorities.
According to GMA News' Maki Pulido, Violago explained that the license plate was replaced because he was attending an event and wanted to use his initials on the vehicle. Ramsay was reportedly abroad at the time, but he and Violago had an agreement.
The said car is now impounded by the LTO.
"Gugulong yung imbestigasyon tungkol diyan. Kailangan makita natin kung bakit nagkaroon ng ibang plaka na hindi galing sa LTO at bakit hindi yun ang nilagay nila," said Lacanilao.
(The investigation regarding that matter will proceed. We need to determine why it had a different license plate that did not come from the LTO and why they didn't use the official one.)
"Although nagpaliwanag naman yung nagda-drive, humingi siya ng dispensa at inamin niya yung kasalanan niya, yung pagkakamali niya kung bakit nailagay niya yung plaka na yun sa supercar na nakapangalan kay Mr. Ramsay," he added.
(Although the driver explained his side, apologized, and admitted his fault and mistake as to why he attached that license plate to the supercar registered under Mr. Ramsay.) —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA News
