Infra damage from Luis, Maymay, Neneng, Habagat hits P5.95B

Infrastructure damage from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng, as well as the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat has reached P5.95 billion, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Thursday.

In its report as of 6 a.m., the OCD also said agricultural damage was estimated at P1.91 billion.

A total of 2.2 million families or 7.7 million individuals were affected by the bad weather in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, CALABARZON, Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila, and MIMAROPA.

Of the affected population, 8,200 families or 28,000 individuals were staying in 325 evacuation centers.

At least 2,800 houses were damaged — 2,500 partially and 340 totally.

The death toll due to Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Habagat remained at 31. Also, 19 individuals were injured and three others were reported missing.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities at 15, including 10 in Baguio City, two in La Trinidad, and three in Atok, all due to landslides.

Rizal and Batangas each recorded four deaths.

In Rizal, two people died due to a rockslide in Rodriguez, while one each died due to a fallen tree in Antipolo and drowning in Binangonan.

In Batangas, one person each died due to drowning in Batangas City and Mabini, electrocution in Lipa, and a landslide in Santa Teresita.

The other fatalities were recorded in Occidental Mindoro (2), La Union (1), Quezon City (1), Oriental Mindoro (1), Negros Occidental (1), and Caloocan (1).
