Death toll from Luis, Maymay, Neneng, Habagat now 33 — OCD

The reported death toll due to the combined effects of tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng as well as the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat has reached 33, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Monday.

At a press conference, OCD Disaster Preparedness Service director Gregorio Tomas added that 19 people were injured and three remained missing as of 12 noon.

A total of 8.8 million people or 2.5 million families were affected by the weather in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila, and Mimaropa.

Of the affected population, 164,500 individuals or 46,900 families are staying in 1,365 evacuation centers.

The weather also damaged around 3,300 houses — 2,900 partially and 405 totally.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at P6.12 billion, while agricultural losses reached P2.32 billion, according to the OCD.

State of calamity

The OCD said 117 cities and municipalities have been placed under a state of calamity:

A total of P1.78 billion worth of assistance has been provided to the affected communities so far, according to the OCD.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has released 2.3 million family food boxes to affected communities and local government units.

The agency still has 3.5 million family food boxes ready for deployment, along with other relief supplies such as ready-to-eat food, family clothing kits, tents, water filtration kits, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, maternity kits, and sleeping kits.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) said 5,831 evacuees have so far been provided medical consultations in evacuation centers.

The most common health concerns reported were acute respiratory infections, skin diseases, hypertension, open wounds and bruises, and fever. — RSJ, GMA News
