Death toll from Luis, Maymay, Neneng, Habagat rises to 34 —OCD

Death toll from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng, as well as the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat has risen to 34, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Tuesday.

In an update as of 6 a.m., the OCD said the fatalities were recorded across several areas, with Benguet accounting for the highest number at 15.

Of the 15 deaths in Benguet, 10 were recorded in Baguio City, three in Atok, and two in La Trinidad. All were due to landslides. Rizal and Batangas, meanwhile, had four deaths each.

In Rizal, two people died due to a rockslide in Rodriguez, while one each died due to a fallen tree in Antipolo and drowning in Binangonan.

In Batangas, one person each died due to drowning in Batangas City and Mabini, electrocution in Lipa, and a landslide in Santa Teresita.

Caloocan also recorded three deaths, all due to drowning.

Quezon recorded two deaths, both due to drowning in Candelaria and Sariaya, while Occidental Mindoro also recorded two deaths in Rizal town due to electrocution and drowning.

La Union, Pangasinan, Oriental Mindoro, and Negros Occidental each recorded one fatality.

Injured/ missing

The OCD said 19 people were injured and three others were missing due to the bad weather.

A total of 9.1 million individuals or 2.6 million families were affected by the weather disturbances in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila and Mimaropa.

Of the affected population, 135,905 people or 39,386 families were staying in 1,255 evacuation centers.

Around 3,700 houses were damaged — 3,300 partially and 458 totally.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at ₱6.27 billion, while agricultural damage reached ₱2.32 billion.

A total of 678 areas were flooded.
