Public schools teachers to take 2-day wellness break, says DepEd
The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that public school teachers in the elementary and High School levels are to take a two-day wellness leave on September 14 and 15, 2026.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said, in a memorandum addresses to regional directors, school superintendents, elementary and secondary school heads, "a Wellness Break is provided for teachers for each term to rest, recuperate, and attend to their personal well-being before the start of the term."
This directive dated September 8, 2026, Angara said, is based on DepEd Order No. 009, series of 2026 titled "Guidelines on the Implementation of the Three-Term School Calendar in Basic Education.
For this term, the wellness break is schedule on Monday, September 14 and Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
"No meetings, trainings, Learning Action Cell sessions, school activities, reporting, submissions, asynchronous deliverables, or other official work shall be required of teachers during the Wellness Break," said Angara.
This directive applies to regional offices, school division offices, and schools as part of efforts to "protect and respect these two days as a genuine break for teachers." — BAP, GMA News
