Ombudsman Remulla on Pia, Alan Cayetano's PH exit: They probably needed a break

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla said Friday that he is not alarmed by the foreign trip of Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano, saying that they likely needed a break.

While they are not facing cases, Alan Peter Cayetano has been scrutinized for alleged anomalies in the 2019 SEA Games when he was chairperson of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.

“Probably they need a break. I know that they have been under stress,” Remulla said in a briefing.

“Tingin ko naman babalik naman. Mayor pa si Lani, si Lani sumama, mabuting asawa… tingin ko naman hindi nila iiwan 'yung kanilang possiyon,” he added.

(I think they will come back. Lani is still a mayor, Lani went with them, a good wife, accompanying her husband to leave. I think they will not leave their positions.)

Remulla echoed the sentiment of Sen. Ping Lacson, who earlier said that the two probably needed a break. Lacson and Alan Peter Cayetano were engaged in a word war, with both trading accusations of corruption. Lacson alluded to anomalies in the reclamation projects in the Cayetanos’ bailiwick of Taguig City.

He also said that they are unlikely to follow the steps of Sen. Loren Legarda and her son Batangas City Rep. Leandro Leviste.

“I don't think it will follow the other path that Loren Legarda and her son took,” Remulla said.

Legarda and Leviste are both outside of the country as they face plunder and graft complaints amounting to P10 billion in allegedly ghost solar farm projects. The senator has been on extended medical leave due to a lung-related disease. —AOL, GMA News
