Sara Duterte impeachment trial Day 25: What to expect
A new witness will be presented by the House prosecution panel on Tuesday to testify on Article 2 of the impeachment case, alleging that Vice President Sara Duterte accumulated unexplained wealth.
On the 25th day of the trial, Atty. Karen Batu, officer-in-charge of the Records Division of the Office of the Ombudsman, is set to be called to the witness stand.
Batu will be subject to the direct and cross-examinations of the prosecution and defense teams, respectively, as well as the interjections of the senator-judges.
Should her testimony finish within the day, Atty. Gerardo Del Rosario, director of the Company Registration and Monitoring Department of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will be called next as a prosecution witness.
Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment specifically alleges that the Vice President accumulated unexplained wealth through the following:
- failure to fully and truthfully disclose all her and her spouse's assets, liabilities, and net worth in her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) including in her SALN for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024; and
- failure to divest, and instead, willfully continued, all her business interests during her tenure as vice president for the years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
