Arroyo OKs promotion of 6 generals, 68 Army lieutenants


MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has approved the promotion of six generals and 68 1st lieutenants in the various branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr announced Monday. Teodoro said President Arroyo, in a resolution dated June 21, 2008, signed the ad interim appointment of three brigadier generals from the Philippine Air Force and three commodores from the Philippine Navy to the next higher rank upon the recommendations of the DND and the AFP Board of Generals. Appointed as major generals were Air Force Brig. Gen. Rolando F. Capacia, who is presently the commander of the 1st Air Division; Brig. Gen. Hernanie Perez, incumbent commander of 3rd Air Division; and Brig. Gen. Nathaniel Legaspi, incumbent commander of 2nd Air Division. Appointed as rear admirals were Commodore Danilo Cortez, currently the chairman of the AFP Bids and Awards Committee; Commodore Ramon Punzalan, internal auditor of the AFP; and Commodore Josefino B Solidum, incumbent commander of Naval Sea Systems Command. Meanwhile, in a separate resolution, President Arroyo also promoted 68 first lieutenants to the rank of captain in the Philippine Army. Secretary Teodoro said the promotions were provided for under Republic Act No. 291, as amended, and Executive Order 138, to ensure the sufficient distribution of military officers in the AFP’s table of organization.
