MRT to install CCTV systems to prevent crime

MANILA, Philippines - Expecting more riders - and criminals - to ride the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) due to rising fuel prices, the Transportation Department is planning to install closed-circuit TV cameras in MRT stations. Radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported Friday night that DOTC Undersecretary Guiling Mamondiong said they may spend some P150 million for the CCTV system. Mamondiong said the CCTV system will help discourage muggers, snatchers and other criminals, or at least help police identify perpetrators of crimes on the MRT. The MRT expects more commuters in the coming weeks as motorists leave their cars at home in favor of public transport. - GMANews.TV
