CBCP to hold nationwide activities for St. Paul the Apostle

MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will hold a series of activities nationwide to mark the 2000th birth of Saint Paul the Apostle. CBCP president Angel Lagdameo said this is in line with the special Jubilee Year of St. Paul from June 2008 to June 2009, as announced earlier by Pope Benedict XVI. "We spent lots of time in discussing plans and activities to be organized at diocesan, regional and national levels during our plenary assembly," said Lagdameo, in a statement on the CBCP Web site. He said Catholics need to know Saint Paul's life and his writings by reading and meditating his works, imbibing his missionary spirit and witnessing to the values of Christ and Christian faith. During their annual retreat that preceded the plenary assembly earlier this month, the bishops reflected on "stewardship" in the light of Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (1991) and the Basic Ecclesial Communities. - GMANews.TV
