Police increase visibility at MRT, LRT stations - report
MANILA, Philippines - With more passengers due to take the Light and Metro Rail Transit (LRT-MRT), Metro Manila police heightened security in the stations of the two systems starting Monday. In Caloocan City, radio dzBB's Bernie Morales reported Monday that uniformed policemen were highly visible at the Monumento terminal. The policemen were stationed at the upper level where passengers would wait for the trains, and at the lower level where passengers bought their magnetic tickets. Police said they had instructions to watch out for snatchers and other petty thieves who may strike at rush hour. Earlier, LRT Administration (LRTA) head Melquiades Robles said he had instructed LRT maintenance crews to make sure all LRT coaches are in running condition. Last weekend, Metro Manila police chief Director Geary Barias said on government-run dzRB radio that he has ordered at least 280 police personnel from the Metro Manila police command to secure the LRT-1, 2 and 3 lines. - GMANews.TV
