RP pro-life groups eye info drives in parishes

MANILA, Philippines - Following prayer-rallies in Iloilo and Manila Thursday and Friday, pro-life advocates are planning to sustain their "momentum" with information campaigns in parishes. Human Life International Asia coordinator Dr. Ligaya Acosta said the information drive should take place at the grassroots level to let people realize the value of life. "Tayo magkakaron ng marami pang information campaign sa dioceses and parishes. This (rally) is not only for one day. We have to inform the people niloloko tayo for a long time (We will have information campaigns in the dioceses and parishes. The rally is not for one day only. We have to inform the people the government had been deceiving us)," Acosta said in an interview on DZBB. Acosta was formerly with the Department of Health, acting as its spokesperson and family planning officer for Eastern Visayas. She said she left the DOH after finding that some contraceptives allowed by the government had supposed side effects. On Friday, she said people should also be aware that the crisis the nation faces now is not overpopulation but corruption. "There is no crisis in the country except a crisis of morality and spirituality," she said. She was referring to a reproductive health bill now pending in the House of Representatives, which the Church had said promotes contraception. - GMANews.TV
