La Mesa Dam overflow still no cause for alarm – official
QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The La Mesa Dam Watershed in this city still kept the slight overflow it started to have since Sunday night, but it should not alarm resident, according to headworks manager Teddy Angeles. The water level remains at 80.18 meters above sea level, or 3, centimeters above the dam, even though Typhoon Julian has left Philippine territory, GMA's John Consulta reported in a Flash Report on Tuesday. Angeles said the current water level is still far from reaching the critical point of 80.45 meters above sea level. But dam officials are closely monitoring the situation so that they could keep nearby villages updated about the overflow. "All systems are in place," Angeles said. "We have active communication and interactions with local government units, the NDCC (National Disaster Coordinating Council), and our Sagip-Buhay group." The NDCC remains on full alert status in case residents around the area need to be evacuated. NDCC identified the villages they are closely monitoring as East Fairview, Holy Spirit, Gulod, Commonwealth, Sta. Lucia, and Lagro. The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) is also monitoring the situation in the areas near the Tullahan River, in case the river overflows. The MWSS identified the areas as Sta. Monica, North Fairview and West Fairview in Quezon City and Tenejeros in Malabon. Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
