Manila cops arrest 3 for making fake peso bills
MANILA, Philippines –Manila policemen arrested three people on Friday for making fake peso bills in the Quiapo district of the Philippine capital. Arrested in a sting operation at their Quezon Boulevard house were Rene Jacobo, 44, and wife Veronica, 24, along with their friend Paulo del Rosario, 34, a resident of Rizal Avenue in the adjacent Sta. Cruz district. The police team was led Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, chief of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3. Sapitula had got hold of information about the suspects' activities earlier and ordered a three-day surveillance on them. On Friday, a police asset posed as a buyer of fake bills. According to police, the suspects were selling fake 1,000-peso bills for P100, and fake 500-peso bills for P75. Cops arrested the suspects as one of them were receiving P500 in marked bills from the police asset. Police seized 20 pieces of fake 1,000-peso, 30 pieces of 500-peso, and 10 pieces of 100-peso. They also took a computer, two printing machines, and other paraphernalia allegedly used in the counterfeiting operation. The suspects will be charged with forgery of bank notes, a violation of Article 166 of the Revised Penal Code.
