70% of Malabon flooded as heavy rains soak Metro Manila
The high tide and heavy rains brought by monsoon rains worsened by typhoon "Glenda" flooded 70 percent of low-lying Malabon City and also inundated other parts of Metro Manila. GMAâs DZBB radio reported Monday that the Malabon-Navotas River overflowed. Bong Padua, public information chief of the Malabon City government, said they are inspecting which dikes had collapsed to make sure residents are safe. "Our rescue teams are on standby. We may have to evacuate them if need be," Padua said. Local disaster coordinating council officials said several streets in Malabon were impassable to light vehicles. Flooding was also reported in Valenzuela City and the City of Manila. Typhoon Glenda continues to move west-northwest and was spotted 230 kilometers north-northwest of Basco, Batanes. Storm signal number 3 remains hoisted over the island province of Batanes in the northern Philippines. Classes at all levels on Monday have been suspended in Metro Manila and the provinces of Zambales, Pangasinan, Rizal, Bulacan and Cavite upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC). Work in government ofices, except those in âhealth and protective services", were likewise suspended. -GMANews.TV
