Emergency drills to become part of Navotas school curriculum

MANILA, Philippines - In the wake of recent floods that hit the city, Navotas City officials have ordered the conduct of regular emergency drills to become part of the school curriculum in public schools. Radio dzBB reported that Navotas City Mayor Tobias Tiangco ordered that the emergency drills be part of the curriculum in public elementary and high schools, as he stressed the need for students and teachers to be alert and to know what to do in case of floods that regularly plague the city. Navotas is one of the flood-prone areas in northern Metro Manila that have yet to find relief from floods during heavy rains or typhoons, despite the government's flood-control program. In ordering the emergency drills, Tiangco ordered close coordination between school officials and with the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC). - GMANews.TV
