Exact location of crashed C-130 found off Davao
MANILA, Philippines - Authorities have already pinpointed the specific area where the wreckage of the C-130 aircraft that crashed off Davao City lies. Navy Capt. Rosauro Gonzales, who is in charge of the ongoing search for the ill-fated aircraft, said the wreck was traced about 2.5 nautical miles southwest of Samal Island and is about 600 feet under water. "We have no visual per se (of the aircraft). They (searchers) were using fish finding sonar that could detect any sunken object. At the sonar screen, a cylindrical body reflected⦠Itâs about 600 feet," he said. Also, Gonzales said they saw a fuel slick above the water surface, another proof that the wreckage was under that specific area. Gonzales hinted on the impossibility of any retrieval operations, saying the country has no technology to allow divers to go down 600 feet below water surface. âItâs really too deep," he said. As of press time, Gonzales said they have not recovered body in the area. "So far, body parts like scalp, limbs, fingers, feet, torn uniform, combat boots, but there is no body (found)," he said. Gonzales said they were still on a rescue operation, noting that there is still possibility that some of the nine soldiers on board the plane have survived the crash. "Itâs only day one. We could say that we are on rescue operations. In disasters like this, you cannot discount some may survive in the first 24 hours," he said. The nine soldiers who were on board the C-130 were Maj.Manuel Sambrano, the planeâs pilot; Capt. Adrian de Dios, co-pilot; Flight Technical Sergeant Constantino Lobregas; Staff Sergeants Petronilo Fernandez, John Arriola; Gerry Delioso; Felix Pedro Patriarga; Patricio Claur Jr, and Aldrin Ilustrisimo. - GMANews.TV
